Horological UK
Whether you are an absolute beginner, a professional clock repairer, an experienced watchmaker, a seasoned trader or an avid collector, the BHI can help you get started and develop your knowledge and skills.
You can choose two different types of learning – practical short courses or long-term distance learning.
The BHI works with other providers
To make horology a vibrant craft and trade, the BHI supports study, education and training. For this purpose, it works with other education and training providers such as Birmingham City University, West Dean College and the British School of Watchmaking.
It also welcomes students, teachers and researchers of other institutions such as Loughborough University, University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University.
In addition, the BHI offers education and training facilities and courses to professionals, enthusiasts and the general public.
Professional tutors, workshops and tools
Our short courses take place in Upton Hall in workshops with professional tools, machines and equipment. It is also the home of an unrivalled collection of historical and modern timepieces, a dedicated library and valuable archives. You can book overnight accommodation in Upton Hall and have breakfast and lunch in the Clock House Café.
Distance learning students too can benefit from these courses and facilities. They are ideal to practise your skills and prepare for examinations.
However, whether you choose a short course or go for distance learning, you always benefit from the knowledge and experience of the BHI tutors. You work directly with an expert in the field and get personal attention as well as useful tips.
