Fun Timer for Kids
The Fun Timer for kids is not like other timers. If you know, have, or work with kids who enjoy silliness and fun in the moment more than the reward at the end of a task, this is the app for you!
Features:
● Words, drawings, or imported images can be placed in the center of the timer to create relevance for each child or group.
● Customizable for speed and sound.
● Encouraging face pops up when kids achieve their goal.
● Congratulatory words and sounds can be recorded to suite your child’s need or interest.
● Music is recorded at 1 beat per second and can be turned on or off.
When you import a picture of the reward or FUN to come in the center of the timer, kids clearly see and understand what the reward will be. If they begin to goof around in the middle of the task, simply press the ‘start’ button to activate the timer and the picture of their FUN will begin to disappear in increments. The disappearing FUN makes it very clear to the children what is happening. As they pull themselves together, you press the ‘stop’ button and a fun face pops up in the place of an alarm clock bell with a big smile and a sign saying, “HOORAY”!
One of the best things about the Fun Timer is that kids experience switching their energy level to return to the task. With the timer as a cue, the kids learn what it feels like to calm and organize their bodies by themselves.
The Fun Timer removes the need for the teacher or parent to tell kids over and over again to get back to work. Kids learn to pull themselves together independently and use positive peer pressure to encourage their friends to do so. Finally, if the kids don’t make it, a sad face pops up holding a sign that says, “OH NO”. This typically only happens once, if ever, and kids get the idea to work hard so they don’t lose their reward again.
The Fun Timer can be customized in several ways. Pictures from your device can be imported into the center, words can be typed, or you or a child can draw the center picture. The speed of the timer can be set to slow (3 minutes for the picture to disappear), moderate (2 minutes for the picture to disappear totally) or fast (1 minute for the picture to disappear).
A soft jazzy/bluesy song, recorded at 1 beat per second, plays when the timer is on or it can be turned off. You can record a sound you know is encouraging to your child that will be activated when the timer is stopped. This may be a person’s voice saying, “You did it!” or a bell, buzzer, or other sound that is reinforcing. You can turn this sound on and off separately from the music.
The Fun Timer is a great way to encourage kids to stay on task and to recover quickly when silliness takes over. Try it out and have a Fun Time!
