Visual Online Timer
I grabbed a cup of tea, set my timer for 3 Pomodori and got in front of my laptop to review online pomodoro timers. After a quick search, and much to my surprise, I was able to find all of 4 (four) online timers to test and review! Given the fact that a “pomodoro timer” search returns over 50 results on iPhone app store, such lack of options was surprising to me. I am sure that there are some other online pomodoro timers out there but for the time being, I will go ahead with the few that I could find and grow this list over time. So, here we go:
I’ve been using Focus Booster for the past 3 years. It is a simple, reliable timer. You can start, pause, and rewind. It counts your sessions as long as you stay on the page. It has no other bells and whistles. The brilliance of it is in its simplicity. You don’t have to log in or register. It does what is supposed to do and nothing else. It has a desktop version too. Highly recommended.
This is one of the more interesting online implementations of the Pomodoro Technique. Like Pomodoro Timer above, it lacks start/stop/rewind functionality but you can start your sessions as well as short and long breaks manually. Most interestingly, it keeps track of your Pomodoro history and allows you to rename the web link so that you continue to have direct access to your own pomodoro page (though I have not fully tested this functionality).
Tomato Timer, visually, is a bit cluttered but offers some good features. Using “Settings”, you can change Pomodoro and break durations. You can start, stop and reset sessions and manually start Pomodoro and breaks. It also allows desktop notifications on Chrome.
A simple pomodoro timer that launches immediately – you have no control such as start/pause or stop. You hear the ticking of the clock by default. The only two features the app has – which by the way are nicely implemented – is the full screen feature and the ability to turn down and off the ticking. While it’s not the best implementation, it’s visually pleasing and it works too.
