Art of Horology
Founded by watchmaker Steven Richardson, the Art of Horology is dedicated to building the next generation of American watchmakers. The mere practice of the art increases a sharp mental focus, dexterity, self-esteem, patience, a sense of self-worth and accomplishment through this old skill.
Richardson is a dedicated tutor of his craft, teaching the art of watchmaking to a class of students at Riverside high school in the Bronx – the first time horology has ever been taught as part of a school curriculum. Richardson’s students will graduate his class with the specialist skills enabling them to maintain, repair and assemble mechanical watches. The skills his young students learn (precision, attention to detail, and an understanding of math, astronomy, and other core subjects) will stand them in good stead for the future and gain rewarding and fruitful employment as watchmakers.
