Hamilton Marine Chronometer

As Hamilton enters its 120th year of timekeeping on land, in the air and at the sea, the Hamilton Khaki Navy Pioneer Limited Edition mirrors the brand's deep-rooted maritime history. A finely crafted contemporary interpretation of the marine chronometers produced by Hamilton during the course of WWII, this timekeeper prides itself on accuracy and doubles as a wristwatch and table - clock.

In 1940, The Hamilton Watch Company embarked on a challenge to produce some of the first marine chronometers. In a little over a year Hamilton managed to develop and produce the first marine chronometers that met the toughest demands for accuracy and reliability.

In three years around 9, 901 excellent instruments were produced.

• Vital military equipment

Chronometers were vital naval equipment for calculating longitude and plotting location and direction, they were used by the US Navy as an alternative to radio for location position. They were vital military equipment since radio signals could be intercepted and falsified by the enemy.

The original Hamilton marine chronometers demonstrated unrivalled accuracy. An Admiral in command of a large battleship said: "The Hamilton chronometers which we had on board more than lived up to their reputation and to our expectations. No equipment could have possibly performed better."
